I got the gauge kit installed on the Speedo, haven't done the cluster gauge yet.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ajporsche/8622232380/

I also got the transmission scrubbed and POR-15'd with their Silver paint. I really like it, first time I've used it.

AND, got the flywheel turned, pressure plate and clutch rebuilt, ready to go back in!

I've got the best part of 4 months work to catch up with here. blush
Long story short, the truck is now a fully fledged UK citizen and has actually been on the road.
Still a few bugs to work out but on the whole I'm a happy boy.
I've made a few financial compromises (upholstery and bed wood) in order to get the truck on the road but I can finally legally drive it on our Queens highways!
Here's the proof. Maiden voyage.

Got my antique tag in the mail. Put it on and started to go for a ride on the main drag! Well, wouldn't you know. Dead battery. I had installed an extra LED dome light at the rear of the panel and left it on for a week!
One more day won't kill me. Tomorrow I'll give it a test drive.

Alvin, I have done the same thing twice in the last three years. You'd think the first time would have taught me a lesson.

Both times, the battery had gone bad a few days in a row.
I'd charge them up each day, drive all day, and the battery was fine all day.

Both times I figured out the reason for the dead battery - I'd put the battery on charge and the charger is not automatic (6v: I have to shut it off, or it will keep charging). I'd remember to shut off the battery just before going to bed. I found it was quite easy seeing the battery in its floor-hole location: the overhead light was already on to light the cab (and to drain the battery).

LEDs would drain the battery at a much slower rate.

Jock,

Nice photos of both your truck and your cats. In the one pic where they are intently looking out the window, was the truck the subject of interest?

What is the bed-wood and the finish? I assume you get some rain in Ayrshire (I lived for a while in Argyllshire and rain was normal weather).

I'll try and keep this thread on topic but firstly thanks for the kind words guys.

Tim,the bed wood is Exterior grade Marine ply 8'x4'x3/4" it's just a tad shy on the width but I supported it underneath with large repair washers along the side angle strips.
It's had 5 coats of walnut marine varnish and has aleady been christened by our beautiful spring weather.i.e. Rain, snow frost etc,it seems to be holding up.
Like I say it's purely a temporary measure.
I'm also planning on adding some bed strips, probably in aluminium or stainless to complete 'the look' as it might be a while before I can get the correct timber and strips.
You're quite correct about the climate as well,it should really be called the Wet coast!

Installed a rear u-joint today and a rear lip seal on the transmission. My truck has a Muncie M-21 4-speed and doesn't have a drain for the tranny fluid I am therefore syphoning out the lube. Any body know of a better way, other than unbolting the trans from the motor and rotating it?

Got the battery charged overnight and for the first time drove it on public highways. Put over 60 miles on it and drove it to my grand daughters soccer game. I must admit I was selfish and took it for "gas" by myself. Just man and machine!! Still stuff to do but it is on the road.

Fired up the '52 3100, wanted to drive her but didn't have time. Threw a tune up on the 'burb, and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to figure out why I have no brake lights. Whoever said "Patience is a virtue" obviously has never chased wiring through a 61 year old, multiple previous owners, found in a barn, 20 foot long truck!!

Today was as simple as getting the throttle cable working, but as Alvin says, "just 15 minutes a day can be enough". Took me longer than 15 minutes to get the cable de-rusted and working but could not have been more enjoyable. I'm 2 months new to all this and can't wait for the bigger projects. I'm so fortunate to have found this truck - I know my Grandfather Bill Ritchie is smiling from Heaven.

Finally got round to it,the dreaded door seals.
I followed the general consensus that removing the door is the best option.
Got the drivers side done, passenger side will follow when i've summoned up the strength,I really should have done it before I filled the door with the glass and regulator. Hindsight eh?

Removed my old radiator / heater hoses. Found out I ordered the wrong hoses. Reordered new hoses that fit. I think I got all the parts I need to make it go and stop. Time to finish installing 'em all.

Enlarged the horn contact brush sleeve hole in my new steering wheel. The sleeve it came with was too short and allowed the end of the contact brush to slip off the contact ring when turning and ground on the column (and in some cases rip the end of the contact off and jam it in the column). I bored it out slightly (to 3/8") on a drill press so the original, longer sleeve would fit. The longer sleeve keeps the end of the contact in place perfectly. I also added a PVC sleeve around the mast and spring so there is no chance of anything grounding where it isn't supposed to.

Pics coming soon.

Last night about 8pm I decided the differential is NOT OK with me. By 9pm I had it laying on the back of my pickup. By noon today it is being rebuilt with a NEW 3.38 gear and complete rebuild kit. I'm not gonna pull it out again. I'm just not going to do it!!!
Its go....or blow, this time! I'm tired of fiddle farting around with this thing. On the road again...... smile next week!

Just finished my Hybrid T5 swap. Used a Camaro trans with S10 tail. Also did the short throw mod on the shifter. Using a snap-on screwdriver as my shifter. My dad was a mechanic and used snap on tools to make a living. I bought his tools when he retired. The shifter will serve as a reminder for me and my kids. Threw a couple new pictures on my link.
