- The one on the right was pulled out of the 3spd on my '51 it looks exactly as I expected it to, the gear is plastic and white in color.
- The one on the left was pulled out of a 3spd trans that came out of a '48 truck and was mated to a similar age 216 that had the smaller 10mm spark plug holes. The gear on it is metal and the teeth appear thicker.

Can the two speedometer driven gears be interchanged or is the drive gear in the transmission different?

I think the issue I've been having with the bouncing speedometer needle is due to the shaft off the plastic driven gear being bent. The gear looks good but the tail where the cable inserts has a bit of an orbit rather than spinning in place as it should.

There is a change in part numbers after 1948 so I would assume that they are not interchangeable. There is a p/n for 47-48 and another part number for after 48.

How many teeth are on the gear? I should be able to help you out with a replacement.

BLUEMEANIE, if swapping out the speedo drive gear from the trans doesn't fix the speedo needle bouncing issue, you might have a bad/binding bushing in the speedo head. A binding bushing will cause that problem.
