I've been looking EVERYWHERE! Where can I pick up a new speedometer drive gear? ...the part the cable hooks into at the transmission.

Even better, where can I find one to match my tire size (7.50x16)?

you will probably have to find another transmission with one in it. At least that is how I got mine. You could try jim carter, he has a junkyard or at least access to used parts. You could call Dreamers in everett washington, they also have access to parts. Besides they are really good people. I would think pre-68 Dave may have one, but since he hasn't replied maybe not. To match tire size you need to know the diameter of the tire, the size of the wheel doesn't mean much.

If you google "speedometer drive and driven gear" it will give you over a million hits. I have used both TCI and The Transmission Center but usually can find them at a local Chevy dealer IF they have someone that will look in the parts book. Computer tappers at the parts counter will just give you a vacant stare.

Thanks Mark! I've tried calling them a few times to ask questions but no one has ever answered the phone.

Pre '68 Dave was able to dig up a straight, functioning 18t driven gear for me and had some suggestions about where I could get a speedometer correction adapter for my tire size.

I didn't call. I just ordered up some parts from them. Showed up two days later, no issues. The packaging looked like a Mom and Pop operation. I have no complaints with them.

I had to get a 19 tooth drive gear with a 36 tooth driven gear. I also needed the driven gear housing and bracket to bolt it down. I need all that to plug the hole on my 4L60 tailshaft housing, drive a vehicle speed sensor AND drive a speedometer. Not complicated at all................

I know your application is different but I've been researching a lot of speedometer stuff lately. I can't remember coming across any early stuff.

We used to get all of our speedo stuff from these guys when we still used mechanical speedos and programmable speedos. Since its all in the ECM now, we haven't bought anything from them. They might still have mechanical speedo stuff. http://www.zepco.com/
