Has anyone here purchased the replacement AD replacement pickup cab? I was wondering how the fit and finish was on these?

seriously?? I'm sure they're as good as any factory original was --before it was "fitted and finished"-- but for the cost of a new cab you could pay a good shop to rebuild yours and paint it and still prolly have some cash left for upholstery .... find a parts trucks with a good cab

I just wondered about how well they matched up. I've seen on here where some of the patch panels don't always align as well as they could or should. Especially inner to outer and outer and inner cowl panels.

the individual pieces available are made from one specific pattern from one specific year, so using them on any particular cab will take 'fitting' the same as it did in the factory, those patch panels [made by the same company] probably would be as much work to fit to a new cab .... the new cabs, being already complete, just have to fit on the frame and bolt up to the front sheet metal, which is always a job .... for the price I really doubt you'd find anyone here in 'hobby land' that's bought one to 'restore' their old truck, they're aimed at the custom rod builders that spend a hundred thou on a truck

I purchased a cab in realitively good condition to replace the one on the Blue Funk (see my signiture.) that was damaged in an MVA. I got my replacement cab from www.eastwestautoparts.com with primarily only surface rust. I had a really good time spiffin' it up and getting it on the frame. (I mean that,too.)

If I had the money and time, I would absolutely love to build a brand spankin' new AD. But hey- you know what they say: "If wishes were horses..."

I purchased the factory assembly manual for the Chevy AD trucks, there are charts in it that give what the "factory" dimensions should be. I have the cab mounted right now on a piece of a AD 1/2 ton frame from a junk truck. Figured this was the best way to help maintain squareness ect.....
The cab I have has been damaged on the passenger side and was repaired years ago. I know the original hood, someone had cut the curve to match the cowl. They had cut the cowl right up along curve for the hood opening and the louvered vent on the side, then overlapped them a bit and brazed it back together.
From what I can tell measuring it looks like this side of the cab has been "pushed" back some. They repalced the rear cab corner but they cut the lip off the door opening where it wrapped around for the cab corner to mount to.
I would say, needs new rocker, inner and outer cowl panels, inner to outer cowl panel, cab corner, floor mount and floor panel ahead of the seat and part of the toe panel.
Driver's side is better off measurement wise, but needs pretty much the same panels replaced....
Good cabs in the north east aren't easy to find anymore.
