rear main crank seal?
rear axle seal?
We All will try to help You,but Ya Gotta get a little more specific.
We are not Carnac the psychic on Johnnie Carson.
55 1st orig rear engine seals were 2 piece rope.
The rear axle seals were rubber, don,t remember the # offhand.
Any Decent respectable Auto parts should have both.

steve sr.

Last time I checked, this guy had NOS rope type rear main seals in stock. Gasket City You could give him a call.

I'd recommend the rear seal from Best Gasket Co. It's made of a modern material that is superior to the old rope seals.

1955 was a change over year, early had shims on the mains and later did not. The Neoprene seal does not work well with the shim style.
I second the Best Gasket seal if your engine has shims on the mains.

Dave,
I have a 55 eng out of a 4 door parts car that I know has shims.
Also have a 56 from a 2 door sedan that a guy Big blocked.
And a 57 that he threw in for good measure, quote'Dont need this 6 cyl. stuff no more'cause all he had was v/8 stuff after that.
Your saying the 56 and newer dont have shims,Thats Great news.
Guess I only had the bottoms open on early 55 motors.
regards,
steve sr.

Steve, There is the occasional engine with shims but most do not after mid 1955.
At the same time(mid 55)they went from dowel locating pins to tangs on the main bearings.

Dave,
Thanks for the reply and the info.
Must have been a few 54 engs. too that I had my fingers in.
Forgot about the 62 running takeout from a K10.
Became a Father/son project up in CT.
They were going V8.
Gonna roll the 55 over,
'it,s still on the stand' and see if it,s doweled or tanged.
Thanks once again.

I also ordered pistons, rings, main cap bearings, and rear motor mounts. Received them next day after he verified he had them. Funny he still does business by phone or mail. Very nice guy.
