It would be cheaper to go that way, but I've been thinking about replaceing the old ball bearings with a new roller bearing kit. Is it worth the money? Is there a noticeable difference? Make sure all your tollerences are within spec. I have had varying degrees of success or failure with the roller bearings. The bearings on the passenger side lasted 30,000 miles while I went through 3 sets of bearings on the driver side in the same time frame.
I have ongoing issues with the conversion. I bought several other axles off craigslist to mix and match hubs, spindles, etc. I currently have a front axle at the machine shop to have new king pins installed. If the spindles don't check out right, I will likely have to send them off to be welded and ground down to factory specs.
My truck is a 59 gmc 1/2 longbed with v8 and 31X10.5 tires on 15X8 steel rims. 6 lug disc brakes on Factory axle with Factory power steering option. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 899 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 899 | bigbadswingdaddy would there be part numbers on your roller bearings and seals that you could post on here?
Maybe then we could cross the numbers over to USA made bearings.
