What type of paint will wear well on the steering wheel to get rid of that worn look? It does look like it was painted from the factory because black is showing through the brown coat (wear).I do not want to spray over with the wrong paint and cause it to krinkle and peel. Prep work tips (PLEASE). Thanks again

I have used Rustoleum "Painter's Touch" to paint steering wheels.. most recently
changed color of a 49 Olds wheel from black to Ivory for my 51 Panel.

The secret is getting it really clean without melting the old rubber with strong solvents like reducer or brake clean.... Just a thorough cleaning and a wipe down with wax and grease remover. Then multiple THIN coats between drying cycles.
Followed by their "Clear" coat. THen hang it up and let it dry for a few days in a warm environment. Total cost was bout $10. Looks great after two years.

They have lots of colors in flat, satin, and gloss so I'm sure you'll be able to do an excellent refinish.

On my 50 I used this stuff from rustolium rattle can ...pic...

Here is the contrast ...pic...

I'm surprised the steering wheels has held up for two years with not problems.

My truck has the brown interior,
The results are not up to show truck standards.

The dash is 7272

I was going for the exact same effect as you describe,
Make it look like it did when i was a kid, minus the holes in the floor and standing on the brakes.
