I bought and installed a mini HEI from Tom Langdon in my 59 GMC 270.
The instructions were good and everything is installed correct. (Tom is a great guy btw)
Only thing i do not like is the external coil (round) that is included in the kit, it has spade type of connectors and i can tell right away that these will vibrate off sooner or later.
I asked Tom about this and he says that i cannot use just any 12v coil and that the coil needs to be for HEI.
What I'm asking here is:
What is the difference between a old "Points" style external 12v coil and an external hei coil? (internal resistance?)
And would someone happen to know where i can find an external 12v round coil for my hei setup?
(I have been looking at "Rudys Internet garage" but i think $75 is abit much, Tom sells his for $20)
I really would feel better with the threaded type of posts on my coil.

Any coil that is specified for use with hei is OK.
As far as i understand the difference between points type coil or hei coil is ballast resistor.
