By conversion i assume its not a GM factory HEI.for a lot less than an after market conversion you can get a good used GM HEI install it shut the hood and forget it.it is a drop in deal on all 194-230-250-292 engines you just have to be sure you have 12 volt power to it

Same applies for V8 for the cost of the module you can pick up a good used GM HEI.I have heard good and bad about after market electronic ignition seems you either love um or hate um.

I found the trouble, the coil in the cap was buzzing. I changed it and the module and it started right up.
It was a factory hei distributor that i put on this 1964 chev half ton.Pretty close fit on the firewall

Make shure the ground connector under the coil is in there. Often PO,s replace the dist. cap & leave the connector in the old cap. This will cause problems & damaged components. smile

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

I have an ignition module tester that I picked up on eBay. I've used it on several junkyard modules, and they all checked out ok, but they can fail.

It's no big deal to replace a module;I have an extra one in the glovebox of each of my trucks, and can change one in under 5 minutes if necessary, but haven't had to yet.Don't forget the di-electric grease on the back side of the module;that's another thing P.O's tend to forget, but the module relies on that film of grease to transfer its heat to the plate.Without it,the module will fail prematurely.
