On my test trips with Betsy i noticed tailpipe was dry black sooty and so are the plugs.I have been trying to run this problem down and i spoke to a old friend of mine and he told me to take a ride up to see him and bring the carb with me . He worked for a chevy dealer all his life so i went to see him .He told me after looking at it the throttle shaft is worn and needs to be bushed. He also said to go down to the barn and bring the box of carbs to him.He gave me a model B that looked like new but used.I asked him what he wanted for the carb He said 20 dollars for the box,i gave him 50 and as i drove home felt guilty.

Make sure the base gasket is not covering the small hole in the base.
If covered the power valve will stay open causing it to run rich.

The replacement throttle body has two holes . The old one has just one, am i using the correct gasket for the manual choke throttle body? The number on the carb ID tag is 7013029 there is M4 stamped on it also.

Some of the later carbs have two holes, one is drilled at an angle into the other. As long as one of the holes is exposed to vacuum you are OK.

The base gasket was covering the vac hole and the trottle shaft in the old throttle body was so worn you could wiggle it . I could never get it to idle right.Cannot wait to put the carb back on, it is so damm cold in the garage,I think there will be a big change in the way engine runs.
