Was there a body style change in the 1/2 ton panel truck (sedan delivery)from 1946 to 1947? I'm looking at a panel truck that looks exactly like a 46' but is titled as a 47' I looked up the vin no. on "VINBUSTERS"
and it came back as a 1/2 ton suburban with no year or assembly plant option.I'm thinking that in 47' the body style changed to look like the 47-53 3100 pickup on the front end. This panel has a split hood with headlights mounted on the front fenders.
Any thoughts?????

Yes, the first trucks of '47 were a carryover of the 1941-46 style and titled as such. I believe they are referred to as the 1st series. Check out the Gallery.

What is you "VIN" code? Is this an engine or cab/frame code?

Maybe not a change in the Sedan Delivery, but there was a change in the Panel truck between 1946 & 1947.

The break in the trucks took place during 1947. I do not know when/if the break in Sedan Delivery models.

GM did not use the terms 1st and 2nd series for the 1946 trucks sold in 1947, and the new Advance-Design 1947 trucks.

"... 1/2 ton panel truck (sedan delivery)" .... a sedan delivery is on a car chassis, a panel delivery is on a truck chassis, 2 totally different things

"I'm looking at a panel truck that looks exactly like a 46' but is titled as a 47" .... as others here said, the 47 1st series was a continuation of 46 model production, the "true" 47 [Advance Design model] started in spring 47 - also back then vehicles were titled as year of sale, not model year, and most places used the engine code on the title, not the body tag ID number

"I looked up the vin no. on "VINBUSTERS" and it came back as a 1/2 ton suburban with no year or assembly plant option" ... that result means you had an incorrect code, otherwise it would have said it was a panel - likely the number you have is the engine number

the vin tag is on the pass. side cowl just under the hood. It reads; F714690. I looked that no. up on "vin busters" and it said it was a 1/2 ton suburban

oddly, that's not a "vin", it should start a number then CK, which is why the vin buster doesn't give a complete, correct response .... doesn't look like an engine number either

and Tim, note the Master Parts Catalog differentiates "first design" and "2nd design"

1947 Advance-Design:

The Vehicle ID would be on a plate on the cab, between the driver's door hinges.

The Engine ID is pressed into the ledge in the block, to the rear of where the distributor goes into the block.

ID locations as shown in the 1947 Truck Specifications Manual

Have any pics you could share? The cab of a 47 AD will be very different than 47 first. I have a 47 first 1 ton and the vin buster works for mine.

I don't think the vin tag I have is the right one nor is it located in the right place according to Tim. It said on VIN BUSTERS that the veh. was a 1/2 ton suburban and nothing else. No year, plant where it was assembled.
Thanks

Dave,

Your truck is a 1946 model. Are you referring to location of the ID tag for a 1946 truck?

right side of the cowl under the hood

I'll post/host several photos of Dave's truck tomorrow.
