There have been several questions asked concerning whether one original carb may be used on a different engine, or what a specific carb fits. I have extracted the data on the Chevrolet 6 truck carburetors from our database, and it is posted below. There are two numbers on some lines. One would be the tag number, the second the Chevrolet number, if different.

Good data Carbking. I printed it out for future reference. Thanks. Are you going to be at the Woodlands swap meet in K.C.K. next month?

Thanks Carbking, I printed the carb numbers for future reference. Looking at the carb numbers it looks like I have a Monojet for a 1970 250 (part #7040025). I bolted on this carb on my 70' 292. Is there a way to recalibrate this carb to work on my 292, or should I just look for the right carb?

Wrenchbender - will probably not do the k.C.K. meet.

Legman - my guess would be that the 292 uses a larger internal venturi (air) than the 250. I would suggest either looking for the correct carb; or if you want more performance, you might try a different brand carb.

While we have bored out carbs to flow more air (normally for racers who must run the original carb), it is not a cost-effective method for the daily driver.

Jon.

Carbking,

I have installed a 1957 235 into my 1951 1/2 pickup. The carb has the number 7013003. Is this the correct carb for this engine? I am hoping to light the fire this weekend.

Thanks,
Gary

I've been looking around to find the difference between the first two on the list. I have a 1929 LQ in the restoration process and need to know how to tell the difference between the two. Can anyone help with this or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

I would go to the original poster, carbking's website . Read around there some, but I think cardboard was used for ID numbers. I'm definitely no carb king, just so you know...

You may get a better response by posting a new topic such as, "1929 Chevy LQ Carb ID Help." This thread is from 2006.

Hope this helps!

Brad

Willy...

sent you a PM, since I have a 1929, learned a WHOLE lot about the 1929 Carter RJH-08 125 vs 136 vs 150.

Great reference info there !!

I had a question can you successful use the Carter RJH-08 150s in place of a Carter RJH-08 136 on a 1929 First Generation Engine ??

The 125s had the short large diameter pump (from memory maybe an inch tall and inch in diameter.

Both the 1365s and the 150s have the long slender pump (again from memory maybe 2 1/2 inches tall by 5/8 inch diameter).

Repeat: both of the above dimensions are from memory, and are probably close but not exact. They do, however show that one pump is short and stubby, the other longer and slender.

As to the 150 -> replacing the 136s:

When we still had time to restore carburetors, we would always suggest if a customer wanted a 136s to actually use the 150s. The 150s was a factory service replacement, so both Carter and Chevrolet agree with this statement wink

The major difference from the 136s to the 150s is a slightly larger main venturi (again memory 7/8 -> 15/16) in the 150s; so the airflow in the 150s is slightly higher. Of course, this requires different jetting.

Externally, I believe there is no difference in the 150s/136s (unless you have one with the red cardboard tag wink ).

One other comment which is strictly opinion:

NONE of these carbs are really GOOD carbs; however, one that is restored is beautiful! Today, if one is planning to put some miles on the vehicle, there are a number of aftermarket carburetors which will provide better driveability, more power, better fuel economy, and much better reliability (plus they are less expensive!).

Jon.
