I am going to be removing my 216 engine and transmission in my 46 chevy 1/2 ton truck and installing a 350 chevy engine and a 700r4 transmission. I would like to swap the rear axle and I don't know what donor vehicle axle would be the best choice. I will be useing this truck mostley at highway speed and no raceing. I would appreciate any advice.

any GM midsize rear like malibu, monte carlo, s-10 or nova will work,I used a 85 s-10 rear from a 4wd in my 46 1/2 ton,and it works great, i still have my 216 engine in mine, but I have a t-5 tranny in mine and i run it 60mph plus everyday back and forth to work, im in the middle of building a high performance 235 at the moment for my truck,.....also have you thought about you're lug pattern? you'll be going from 6 lug to 5 lug in the back, you're gonna have to change out the front too I did mine already, let me know, I have an easy way to change the front

I just bought this truck and the truck came with new 6 lug disc brakes, new 4 speed transmission, new gears for rear end and many other parts that have never been installed and I am not going to use because I am going to install the new engine, trans, rear end mustang 11 suspension. I also want to install ac so I did not think that I would have enough hp with a 6 cylinder engine. This is the first truck I have restored so I am very new at this. Thanks

You are not restoring this one. You are highly modifying it.

sred,

Do you still have the parts listed above? I have been looking for disc brakes and also rear end gears. Just curious what you have and what you want to get rid of. Please PM me.

thanks
