#9191 11/09/2003 10:47 PM | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 99 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 99 | I've posted a question dealing with this before, but today I came across a new idea and wanted to run it past all of you... the rubber lines from the oil filter to the block on my '55 235 engine need replacing (they finally broke off the threaded ends... yes, they're that dry). When I went to the parts store today to see if they had anything similar (figured I'd try them before ordering any online), the guy started talking about using a steel line with a rubber hose clamped in between, but what about replacing the lines with steel lines? As far as I understand it's your typical 235 oil filter (not sure if it was a stock option or not) that bolts onto the intake manifold. Since the filter is bolted right to the engine, why can't steel lines be used? Since the lines will be kinda close to the exhaust manifold and pipe will this boil/burn the oil running in the line, or will it not be a problem? Have I overlooked anything else? Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks!

| | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 38 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 38 | Neil, I believe yopu could use steel lines such as swag-lock to ensure a good solid connection. However, there may be some vibration which could cause the line to crack. Also, you must check the ID of the metal part attached to the original hoses to ensure the proper amount of flow. You could fabricate a restricter if necessary. With oil, a concern is heat, but with the flow running through it would more than likely be okay. You could try to avoid the hot area as much as possible by re-routing the lines. I believe the best thing to do would be to replace the lines with the OEM type. I do think which ever type lines you install will work.

They made one in minutes with the propper ends and I had it on the AD for less than 10 clams. Who you are speaks so loudly that your one of Gods children, I'll listen to what you have to say.
