Lately I've been reading a series of detective novels that take place in Aberdeen.
The people in the police department seem to survive on a liquid called Irn Bru and something called Bacon Butties.
The wikipedia description of Irn Bru sounds like a chem lab experiment, and bacon butties sounds like a heart attack between slices of bread.
Are they good?

Jim,seems that Daniel set you straight in my absense,IRN BRU still consistently outsells a certain USA drinks giant (the one with the red can)
The Scots market is one they just can't break into, the 'BRU' is so ingrained in our culture it's going to be a tough nut for them to crack.

Another Scottish 'delicacy' is square sausage ,it also shares the bacon butties heart attack producing fat levels.
Actually the word buttie is more associated with our neighbours south of the border, not to be confused with butterys which are a different thing altogether.

In answer to your original question before I rambled on is yes, they are good but in moderation of course.
Excuse my asking but what were the books?
I've been trying to get back into book reading and I'm open for suggestions.

It sounds like Ian Rankin to me. Possibly the Rebus series. Or Tana French?

I lived near the Firth of Lorne. That Lorne (square) sausage went very nicely with the black pudding and fruit pudding (all fried).

Tim,our local butcher makes what we call breakfast slice, basically it's square sausage with the black pudding in the middle, which I have with 'broon sauce' on a buttered morning roll washed down with a big mug of tea after work on a Saturday morning.(This is my once a week 'treat')
I'm not so big on the fruit pudding though.

Like I say John,it's a once a week thing,my normal diet is more Mediterranean than Scottish thanks to Mrs Jocks southern French parentage, lots of fresh veg, olive oil and fish etc.
'We' Scots do have a history of bad diet and coronary disease though......

Jock,
Sorry for the delay.

The Logan McRae series.

The first was offered for free on my Nook reader. It was like crack cocaine and I got hooked. Some of the incidents are a little far-fetched, but the humor is wonderful. That is, if your brain is a little lopsided like mine is.

Well Jock,
I am of Scottish ancestry, late name Kirkwood. So my arteries must be pre programed. When I'm in the old country I'll have to give it a try.
