For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 124 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 124 | I need both front fenders for my 65 C10. They have the typical rot on the lower rear sections plus the support braces are mostly gone. THey also have a bit of rust through on the center above the wheel so in my opinion they are not worth the trouble to repair plus I don't have a mig welder and no welding skills. Now I constantly read that the reproduction fenders are horrible fit. Are they that horrible? This isn't going to be a show truck but I'm tired of seeing the rusty fenders. I plan to get it together and paint it myself this coming summer. I also have the option of finding some original or repaired original fenders online. Any advice would be much appreciated! | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,901 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,901 | I worked for a guy in Syracuse NY who bought old buick station wagons that were all rusted out when he bought them and he'd run them forever... his trick was wad up that mornings paper after reading it and shove it down the holes. Road salt papercrete.
If you want to learn then get a cheap wire feed and watch some videos or take a class. Guys here will make you glad you tried.
They'll also tell you the originals weren't perfect fits either... Fight on an original or a repo what's the difference?
Its just going to be a driver so do whats comfortable for your skills. And have fun.
Give me ambiguity or give me something else

Funny thing is yesterday after I posted here I started watching a bunch of youtube videos of guys doing metal work on 60-66 trucks and I was like " I can do that." One guy was saying it was his first time doing metal work. I'm going to give it a shot. It's just too much darn money for substandard parts that are going to be a fight to make fit anyway. I have an old small wire feed mig welder. All I need is a regulator and tank. I might actually practice on my rear stepside fender with wire flux core. It's dirtier but you grind it all off anyway. I will post my results as I make progress in the next few months. Thanks..... | | |
