Ok I'll try this one. My turn/brake lights didnt work properly on my 59 1/2 ton when I bought it.
I purchased a new turn signal switch from a vendor and installed it, same problem. Traced the wires, found crossed wires underneath.
Anyway, to get 2 fucntions out of one filamint, the T/S switch has several electrical connectors that affect the turn/stop lights.
Try to picture this inside the steering column : Starting from the top down, Left side T/S wire, Right side Stop wire, Left stop wire, Right side T/S wire
When the T/S switch is centered, a wide electrical connector insde the steering column connects the stop lamp switch to both tail lights, giving brake lights to both sides. adn no power to turn signals.
When you signal right, you move the T/S lever up. The other end inside the column pivots down (think about it). this moves the wide electical connetor down, which breaks the electrical contact for the stop lights to the right side, and at the same time applys power to the T/S flasher and the right side bulb. In effect, the left side is still connectd to the brake light switch andnow the right side is connected to the T/S switch.

How'd i do?

When you can see it in action, I think it is easy, but If I hadn't taken the time to puzzle it out, I wouldnt under stand it today. Anyway, now all you need is proper color of wire and you are set to go. Right? Right?
