For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2012 Posts: 59 | I have a 53' chevy with the stock transmission and it is 3 on the tree. I finally got my truck running and took it up the street for a test drive. I could shift through the gears going up the street but when I came back down the street the transmission wouldn't want to shift from 2 to 3rd. Is there a certain way to connect the linkage so that there isn't a hang up? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | The linkage may need adjustment at the transmission or the shift box on the column. There are also bushings on the shift links at the column shift box that could be worn. Check a shop manual for adjustments. If you have no manual try this site. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/
