Has anyone seen a cigar lighter for our trucks? What is it? Just a big cigarette lighter or does it also clip the tip of your cigar for you?

I might be reviewing a lot of these but never heard about them before.

I think they're the same thing - Henry Fjord wouldn't allow his lighters to be called cigarette lighters, so they were often called cigar lighters. Fjord was a very odd person. I'm not sure if that is accurate, just what I have heard several times.

me too - think the cigarette lighter back then was frequently refered to as a cigar lighter - not too likely anyone [let alone GM] would have made a special lighter for a cigar vs cigarette, especially one that nipped the ends!!

I also think the cigar and cigarette lighter were the same accessory. There are aftermarket 1954 lighters available (don't know if there are aftermarket lighters available for '47-'53) and, while they match the '54 dash "buttons", they do not match the style of the original accessory lighters (which was the same style for 1947-1955). These show up on eBay every so often. If the old socket is bad, the aftermarket socket fits the original lighter/button (there are lighted and unlighted 6v/12v sockets available).

Your link didn't work (at least for me). GMC & Squeeze, I'm referring to some cigar lighters that came from a GM plant, not fjord. When I review this lot in a couple weeks, I'll report back with pics and part numbers.

That first link made me chuckle. How come I didn't have one of those back in the late 60's early 70's (hippie days) when I drove my first AD ('52/3100) along the rivers of Northern Calif while search for the perfect fishing spot using my infamous herbal fish finder. Sure would have made my steering a lot easier.

My point was that they are the same thing, just a different name from a different time. Had nothing to do with GM vs. Fjord.

There is a very good chance that they will become available plus other NOS items, but then again the sun might not come up tomorrow. One can never plan the future these days. But if MT would buy me that pipe holder he found on EBAY, the sun may infact rise to the occasion.
