It can be simpler or more complex depending on which alternator you get. Look over the tech article and look at this one as well. Pick the parts that make it easiest. one wire alternator

I have never done this on my 49 chevy, started i dont know how many thousands of times, and it works great.
The only thing is that it runs faster, making starting quicker.

I just don't let it run long enough to get hot.
