I did a bunch of research on the rear main seal issue and found some good advice on this site. I ordered a Best Gasket rope seal and hope to install it this weekend.

I don't remember where I read it but someone said oil can seep through the threads of the rear main cap bolts and that sealer should be used on them. What kind of sealer do you use on the bolt threads and how does it work when the threads have been oiled while checking the bearing clearances?

Thanks,
Shawn

I'd use Permatex #2, it's a black stuff that doesn't really harden.

Thanks Grigg. I'll give that a shot.

No problem, It's what I use on any bolts that need to not leak oil, works great. I also use it on paper gaskets, lightly on both sides.
