Using a 12 volt wiper motor from a Volkswagon GTI I have begun to convert my '51 to electric wipers. The hardware set up is finished and now I am set for the wiring. My problem is that I am not sure how to proceed. The colored input wires to the motor assembly are: brown,green, green/black,green/yellow, and black. This connection mates with two wires, red and green, which go directly to the motor. The red wire on the motor appears to align directly with the green/yellow on the input plug. The green wire on the motor appears to align with the green on the input plug. How do I wire to the input plug? I'll be coming from my fuse block to the input :confused: plug. Are some wires not connected?

What year VW, and what model(s)? Some electrical type will come along to solve your wiring prob. How did you learn that a VW electrical wiper motor would fit? Are you going to use the delay feature? Maybe that is what all the extra wires are about. Way to go! Hope you can get it to work!

I would love to hear more about this one - maybe see some pictures? There is no way I'm going to use the vaccuum wipers, and the conversion kits are expensive. A junkyard solution would be perfect.

I am still in hot pursuit for getting this done. I learned that the green wire from the wiper motor is the power lead. The green/yellow is for high speed and the brown for low speed. I am still trying to determine the other leads.(I think they be for a delay circuit) The mechanical set up is a little more vexing but also proceeding. My initial set up did not work but I am making modifications. It looks promising. When finished I will gladly share the results. I too have been dicouraged with the vacuum wipers and the cost of conversion kits. I got the wiper motor on ebay for $15. I expect conversion cost to be under $25.

In exchange I offer the wireing diagram for the wiper system on an 85 VW Golf GTI hope that's close, if your motor is from a different car let me know and I'll see what I can find.

I bought the electrical conversion kit from LMC (they get them from some other company). But I looked at the motor and I'm sure it is a regular wiper motor, just don't know from what. Anyone use this set-up and know exactly what motor they use?

I am still working on the conversion, unfortunately work occassionally gets in the way. I have been able to mount the wiper motor and attach the left blade mechanism. I can attach the right blade mechanism but it will result in one blade going up while the other is on its way down. Like wise when I shut the wiper off one blade will be down and the other up. To correct this I will have to remove the glove box and determine if there is sufficient space to reverse the rod on the wiper stem. Have not had the time to do this yet. As soon as I've completed it I will share all the info.
