The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop V-bar removal

I removed my windsheild frame today from the '42 and its in really good shape except for a little hole in the lower pass side corner. The center bar came out easy, the v-bars are being very stubborn. I was able to remove the old glass by cutting the rubber and carefully spreading the frames apart. The tech-tips said to cut a 1/4 ect, but i can't go that route. How can I get these v-bars out without cutting or damageing the frame? Heating?

Well I was able to remove the V-bars today. I Drilled out the snapped screws, Sprayed with pb blaster, Clamped frame to bench, and heated with a small propane torch, then slowly worked halve the frame apart. The V-bars broke on one side leaving 1 1/2" sticking out, I put vicegrips on it and started tapping, Then snap again! Both times they snapped at the threaded screwhole. Now I have the remaining pieces inside and I'm thinking thats it!, I have to buy a frame now!. So I can see the left overs inside the screw hole and I take a small drill bit and drill a small dimple in it, then take a small center punch and drive them out in small segments, then redrilling,driving ect till they are all out. This all was done within an hours time. Hopefully this can help someone else out there not wanting to cut their frame to get these blasted V-bars out
