Just started on a 1950 Chevy 3600. All the gauges are shot. I've read that the two gauges are 4 5/8". I'd like to retain the "look" by sticking with a quad gauge and a speedo. Does someone make adapters that convert the hole to accept 5" gauges? What about Dolphin gauges? I've used them for many projects and have never had a issue.

Why not retain "the look" by using original equipment gauges- - - -there's plenty of them available. Are you doing a restoration, a resto-mod, or a butcher job? It sounds like maybe it's the latter choice.

I bought a set of Omega quads from Speedway. They seemed to be the least expensive since they came with all of the senders. They had a set of bezels and fit right into my 49 3100.

the Omega's are a good affordable set that will adapt to about any driveline set-up. and they look good, ez set-up helps. sounds like you've done this b/f so check your options for your own needs,style and budget.

Well---I'm not a butcher but I play one on TV. Seriously-this truck will be a driver with some modern updates. I'm not interested in keeping it stock looking. Thanks to all for the information--and the cheap shot.

I've damaged more than my share of classic cars and trucks beyond repair over the past 50 years or so. Ever pulled all the exterior sheet metal off a 55-57 Chevy 2-door hardtop to re-skin a dirt track racer? We did it regularly out in California in the early 1970's- - - -nice, rust-free ones, too! Fast-forward 30 years, and a lot of mid-70's Monte Carlo and Grand Prix bodies got the same treatment for the Nashville Fairgrounds track. The body of choice for my father's round track cars in the very early 1950's were 34 Ford 3-window coupes!

These days, I appreciate a good stock restoration a lot more than somebody's hot rod. Maybe it's part of getting old!

I used Dolphin gauges on my '50 Chevy too. I took the original gauge housings and cut them out except for the outer ring - some might call it "butchering" Then I installed the Dolphin gauges into them with the Dolphin mounting hardware. The outer rings from the original gauges act as a bezel for the new Dolphins and they provide the mounting tabs for use in the original locations. It's not an original idea, and it looks like one of the links above might show a similar process. Works good though.
