I want to get my truck registered this week. The truck was purchased out of state and I read something about a DMV inspection.

I have mirrors, tail lights, turn signals, etc. to make it street legal. What else are they going to be inspecting, outside of verifying the VIN and model?

Not sure what the rules are for a new registration, when I got my truck it was a simple in state transfer and tag, no inspection needed.

I got it done last week. They kind of have you in a catch 22.

To transfer an out of state title you need to have someone (car dealership or BMV) verify the VIN number and a couple other things. To do that they need to see the truck (or car). I am not sure how most people handle it, if they just drive the unregistered vehicle to a dealership or trailer it. My neighbor works at a dealership and has the authority to perform the inspections. She just brought the paperwork home with her and signed everything off.

Once you get the paperwork the transfer the title it is just like any normal registration.

Good information, sounds like a pain to get it done but glad you were able to.

It would have been worse without my neighbor to help out. Besides that, the only other legal way I can see to do it would be a trailer.
