Before I guess at the size, what is the bolt size that is in the damper. I believe it to be
3/8 X 24. I want to chase the threads before I attempt to pull it off.
Then, I want to drill and thread the crank. What would be the proper size?

That would be for a 235.

I'm pretty sure the tapped holes in the hub are coarse threads (3/8"-16). Those who drill/tap the crank usually use a SBC bolt which is 1/2"-20 (fine thread) however I believe it's unnecessary unless the hub I.D. is worn enough that it want's to fall off. Warming it on a stove for a bit makes installation much easier.

7/16 Fine is what they use on small blocks and 1/2 on big blocks, 7/16 fine is all you need.

I have a drill/tap guide setup for threading the crankshaft that's available for loan if you're interested. The crankshaft center bolt size is 7/16-20, same as a small block V-8. Drop me a pm if you're interested in the tooling. I believe the puller holes in the damper are 3/8-16, but I'll be glad to confirm that in the morning when there's some light in the storage shed.
