I have a 53 burb that i pulled a 235 out of. when i drop in another 235,can i keep the tranny attatched to the torque tube and use the guide bolts or do i have to disconnect the tranny from torque tube and then loosen ubolts/ slide rear back then foward?

I think you will find it a lot easier to put the tranny in after you have the motor in place. It's really only a short bit of work to remove the tranny.

Is the front sheet metal off of the burb? If it is, it's not difficult to slide the engine back into the tranny. I did it on my 39 with the help of another person to line things up.

the passenger fender is still attatched, the hood, driver fender, radiator support are all off.

I know your supposer to pull the rear end out, but i figured it would save a day if i could just slide it in. stuff a rag in the bellhousing to hold the throwout bearing in place.

Drew,

You should be able to do this without sliding the rear end back. Put a jack under the torque tube, unbolt and slide the u-joint cover back, undo the u-joint, slide it back into the tube and then lay the front end of the tube on the ground. Then the tranny will come right out. If you have a crossmember under the tranny you will need to unbolt and remove it first, of course.
