looking for info to make sure i dont mess things up. i bought a 02 5.7 vortec that came out of a 3500 box van the guy i bought it from had it rebuilt and put this cam in it.

valve lift intake exh.
.480 .480
cam lift .320 .320

duration[sae]287 287

valve lash hyd

centerline 107 111

spread 109

timing event @.050 cam lift
opens BTC 8 BBC 46
closes ABC42 ATC 4
duration INT 230 EXH 230

using rosker ratio 1.5

can anyone tell me if this set up is going to be ok for the stock 5.7 that has been converted to carb. i need any and all input.

From what I've researched myself, is that the vortoec heads had some seal clearance issues when using bigger cams. Seems as though .460 is about the max without problems. You need to machine the valve guides back if you want more lift. You seem to have a pretty aggressive setup as it is so, maybe scale back your cam choice a little and everything should be fine.

can you give me a little more info on the valve guides. how its done the cost of having it done ect.

I will pipe in here and see if I can answer the question .The concern is not so much the guides being to tall it's the seal that get smashed by the spring retainer .I have done some dyno testing with a 300 Hp Flat tappet cam and the engine will make around 325 hp/345 ft lbs torque .Keep the cam small and you will be happy with the idle and power,the vortec heads flow very well .If you would like more specifics on the cam I used PM me I can send you the details I dont have them here at home
