For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 39 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 39 | Got '66 fleetside with a 4.1LL (250cid) and a Muncie 318 on the column. I've found a 55-57 Muncie 319 on Craigslist. What will it take to stuff the OD trans into my truck? Do I need a different bell housing? Great forum!!

You might want to trade side covers since the shift levers and linkage would be different. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,102 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,102 | The stock 66 3 speed is about 15" overall and the OD trans is about 22". It will bolt in but you will need to shorten your driveshaft. Fred

Can I take the side cover from the 318 and bolt to the 319? I saw a schedmatic for wiring the solenoid. Any tips you might want to share?

There are minor differences between the car and truck transmissions such as the indexing of the shift arms on the side cover and the lower mount bolts are threaded on the truck version. Internal gears are the same in this transmission series. There are some variations such as the mid 60's Chevelle which has different internal gears that will not interchange with the other version. They look similar externally however and will work in other vehicles. If you need assistance with the OD install give me a call. 562-225-5869 Fred

Haven't had a chance to get close and personal with the tranny, so don't know if the mounting points, cross-member location, etc. are compatible. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/pts/3370230032.html

Send me a PM, I can recommend some alternatives. Fred
