I'm looking for a bushing for the temp probe. edit( threads into where the probe attaches)

this is the part from classic parts.(I'd like to run out and get one today)

anyone know what size the bushing is?

Id like to find one at the flaps.
its not 3/8 pipe or 1/4 pipe.

235 head temp probe, need to reduce to 1/8 pipe.

> NAPA Part #BK 7011798 I had to file the center opening in the reducer to enlarge it a little to accept the bulb. Other 'Bolters say that their temp probe fit through the reducer with no problem. My temp gauge is a reproduction, possibly a little different size than the original.

Mine is in a Dec 22, 1959 "848" head on a '54 235, '54 reproduction temp gauge from the Truck Shop.

The 3/8 to 1/8 adapter I have right now is to big

Just threading an electric sender that is 1/8 pipe.

Didn't want to pay 8 dollars shipping for a 7 dollar part.

Just so you know, the hole for the temp gauge is larger in an "848" head than in the original '54 head. The NAPA and Classic bushing are for the "848" hole.

The '29-'57 MPC noted that the "temp. gauge reducing bushing" was supplied with replacement 235 head casting #3836848 and with replacement 261 head. No GM part number for the bushing.

I don't have an 848 head. So will that napa part number not work?

I don't believe so. I believe that the inside hole of the NAPA bushing is the same size as the hole in your '54 cylinder head. The bushing was to allow an earlier model temp gauge probe to be used in a later model head that has a larger hole for the probe.

Might ask another 'Bolter who has more experience than I do.

I'm just trying to adapt my original probe size to 1/8 pipe for an electric sender.
I thought the original size is 3/8 pipe but the 3/8 bushing I bought wont thread in.

Hy DADS50, you need a 1/4" NPT X 1/8" NPT bushing Weatherhead p/n 3220X4X2, hope that helps.

I've tried the 3/8 and 1/4 pipe
The 1/4 dropped in the hole

The thread on the mechanical temp probe is NOT pipe thread. I believe it is 1/2" x 20. I will confirm that.

Mine looks like a 5/8 diameter

The thread is 5/8" x 18.

Sorry for the confusion

Napa and Orielly both told me it was pipe. I took the probe with me for comparison.

Ended up having to make an adapter

Ran a stock die nut on a 3/8npt x 1/8npt pipe adapter.

No leaks........yet
