The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts whats my big bolt worth

i have a 47 chevy cabover 5 window with 261 otherwise everything else is original. getting painted right now. had the bumper and some other pieces chrome plated. has a 12 foot flat bed and new tires and brakes cylinders all the way around. anyone have an idea what it is worth so i can get insurance? thanks.

welcome to the garage, drop by the Welcome or DITY forum and give us your story - and pictures, we all love pictures .... if you look around here you'll find most folks understand any old truck is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, not a penny more .... if you aren't selling it than for insurance purposes it'd be worth about what you paid to get it in the condition it's in, but you'll want to have the receipts to document that

exactly, figure what it'd cost you to do it again and agree on a value with your insurance agent. It's more a question of what you want if it's totaled than what it's worth... I bet they are vastly different numbers if you have a reasonable amount of work in the truck.

what would it be worth to you if you had to buy it... then put that much insurance on it... if you dont drive it much and keep in garaged you might get some classic Ins pretty cheap..

I don't know what the value of your big bolt is,but the interest in those is alive,and very well,and being a C.O.E.is a real plus.If you are doing it to make money,well that is a different,story,but it sounds like it might be for your own satisfaction,and if I were there to see it,I would be pleased.Many don't own big bolts,or farm tractors because they live in town, but there are a lot of country folk.

Here's what I think,(If it means anything)There is only a few cool dudes that like Bigbolt trucks and most of them are here in Stovebolt, Bigbolt guys are hard to find because there is not very many "new" guys coming into the bigbolt club,Just the guys that have some Bigbolts and the guys that want some Bigbolts,A lot of the "new" guys are buying the 1/2 tons,so with that being said your truck is worth what you will sell it for.

Selling price and insurance value are on opposite ends of the scale. Contact Gulfway and see how little it cost to put antique insurance on your truck. I think with an agreed value of $15,000 it's only a few hundred a year.

I agree with MikeB. I had my 54 GMC COE registered as an antique and had an agreed value collector's insurance policy of $15,000 and the cost was less than $150 /year. - Bob

to me big bolts are worth more, i like the big impressive size of a work horse
