Went to the Hershey, PA Car Show last week and was lucky enough to find/buy a McGurk Engineering 2x1 intake manifold.

I wanted to pass along some info that I just learned about the intake.

After cleaning off all the old gas from the leaking Rochesters, the intake is blue in color.

To my surprise the McGurk intake was a perfect fit for my 235 Corvette exhaust manifold.
The heat box studs/bolt holes all lined up and fit together.

Next I tried to install a (2 15/16") 235 carb and it would not fit.

This McGurk intake was designed to fit a 235(exhaust) and to accept the (2 11/16") 216 carb.

In addition to McGurk Engineering on the manifold there are also the letters PG.
Does this mean that all McGurk PG manifolds are 235 with 216 carb stud spacing.

I have also seen pics for the same 2x1 McGurk manifold that does not have PG, but has STD.

Anybody know if the STD is a 235/235 or 216/216 or ...... ??

What letters are on your McGurk intake and what is the exhaust & carb combination.

It sounds like somebody at McGurk knew what he was doing. The best combination for dual carbs on a 235 would be a couple of Carter carbs for a 216. An even better choice would be a couple of carbs calibrated for an engine of around 180-200 cubic inches, if something like that could be located. Putting two of the same carbs on a 235 that were designed to perform right when only one of them was installed is about the biggest exercise in stupidity that I can think of. Doubling the venturi area and expecting to avoid flat spots and lean-out conditions when the throttle is opened quickly doesn't even make good nonsense.

The PG means the intake is for a Power Glide car and the STD means the intake is for a standard transmission car.
The Powerglide cars used the wider hole spacing base on the intake and the standard used the smaller hole spacing base on the intake. Rochester carbs are made with the two different size bases.
The original color may have been blue, but the intakes are made from aluminum and do polish up nice and shiney.

The inliners international site has a good article on making twin rochester model Bs work, it involves modifying the power stage tip-in, but using twins from a 216 is a easier, more common tactic.

I'm doing about the same only with a Tattersfield I've had ratholed for years. It has a pair of rochesters on it. The only color left was a little patch of blue on the underside. It was from a 216. Hope to make it work on a 54 235. What is the scoop on cams for a 235 with 2x1's? I have to go thru this motor any way and if I need to replace the cam I might as well get one that will do a little better than stock. What do you recomend.

I cant remember the exact cam number, but maybe on amazon you can find Frank McGurk's little book on hopping up the gmc and chevy six. McGurk made a lot STREETABLE products for the 216-261 chevy sixes and maybe some body can stll grind one of his cams. There is a place named Delta cams in Washington state?. Some folk on the inliners site talk about them. I used to have the booklet, and once had a regrind of one of his 3/4 cams-it had a little lope to it and was pretty peppy in my '54 car with 3.70 gears. Frank was real big on making good streetable cars with some competition only products too. Cant speak of bill fishers book-never read it. Frank had some cams that were good for PowerGlides too. Try to find his book and then look for a cam grinder.

howards cams, cam craft, patricks, egge, and tom langdon, are the ones I know of. That will make you a cam. Cam craft at least has new blanks to start with. And will make just about any grind you want, same with howards. Delta will grind just about anything too, but they don't have many cores if any at all.
