Can't really see why a template is really that necessary. I first placed the outside bracket against the pillar, put a large drill bit that was a snug fit in and viewed how many degrees off horizontal it was. Removed everything, got the ole drill out with a small drill bit, as carefully as possible tried to drill into the pillar at same angle. No not rocket science technology but it worked pretty good. The hardest thing was getting myself to turn the drill on. The idea of poking a hole right there made me sweat a little.

I can tell that you didnt use the template on yours because it is higher up than mine. | | |
