Shell Rotella 15W40 T4 in my Cummins year round and also in my 216, seems to be near perfect for my application and only around $70 for 20 litres or just over 5 gallons for our friends to the south!

Amsoil makes a 10w40 Signature oil that has 1265 ppm of Phosphorus and 1378 ppm of of Zink. Amsoil also has a break in oil with very high levels to provide cam lobe protection. Use that. When you feel the rings have seated, 1500-2000 miles. Then put in the Amsoil 10w40, worked for me in my 1959 235 engine.

There is no problem using high-ZDDP/Zinc oil on any stovebolt engine (I think).

However, it is not needed on stovebolt engines 216/235/261 after break-in.

I use a high ZDDP break-in-in oil on my newly rebuilt stovebolt engines.
After break-in, I use the Shell Rotella 10w40 or 15w40 after that (whichever is cheaper).

Are we heading into another round of discussion of ZDDP-necessity in stovebolt engines?
