Three ratios were available through those years:
•4.11 with an overdrive transmission
• 3.90 with a standard transmission
•3.38 with an automatic transmission.

Mike,

If you have a DANA 44 pumpkin, you can drop down to a 3.23 gear set from Presion Gear $250.00 with all the barings. like I did.

My info show it came with 3.90 gearing to begin with. Can you confirm that?

Yes, I had the same ratio I bought a carrier gear, a pinion and the associated barings. While you have everyhing apart, swab out the axle tubes with a laquer thinner and some old rags, blow dry. You can also use a copper scrubber pads on a long stick (broom or mop handle for some good scrubbing action. Staple the pad to the stick gong back and forth. Replace the axle barings. You'll hate yourself for not doing it while you cleaning eveything up.

I've got a set of 3.07 gears out of a dana 44 from '60 2wd GMC. Seems that was the 'economy' gearing with the 305 & 1 bbl Holley.

I found this online someplace, not sure if it is 100% accurate.

I think that is true for the corprate / Eaton axle used in Chevy but not sure about GMC / Spicer / Dana axles.

Would have had a tag on one of the cover bolts, if that's gone, take the cover off, Should be stamped on the ring gear (or count teeth on ring & pinion).
