Put gas in my new tank and checked the sender, all is good and no leaks or gas smells.

Got my home brewed windshield wipers working at last.....
It's one of those jobs i've been deliberately avoiding due to the location,i.e. under the dash!
I contorted, cussed and sweated my way under there and got it done....

The linkage was done some time ago and yesterday I got the motor mounted and wired too, just need a switch and new blades, job done!

Took a break from sanding last night and sprayed the bottom half of the dash (it's going to be two tone). Tonight hopefully will be the last little bit of sanding and then we paint the cab.

Got the other air shock mounted and leaf spring put back on. I'm proud to say that now the frame doesn't rest on the axle any more. Well, at least on the left side wink

I'm hoping to be able to take the air compressor over and see if I can't get this thing up in the air! If all goes well, I'll be able to move on to the brakes!

Finally! Some progress!

I got the horn put back on the manifold. About 40 years ago, when I put the 235 powerglide engine in the '51 burb, I mis-drilled the horn mounting holes in the manifold tab. The horn has been hanging on and flopping around on one bolt ever since. The other day the bolt broke and the horn fell off. It was caught by the generator.

Today I studied on it, took a measurement, center punched a new hole location, drilled a pilot hole and mounting hole. Horn bolted on and fit perfectly. Who-hoo!

I think I have learned how to do a few things since I was 19.

Put the 58 Impala Steering wheel on the 68 pickup column on my 52 panel. Then covered the tranny cover and the batter box cover with the stuff like peel & seal. Removed the gas pedal and installed the horse hair underlayment for the rubber floor mat. Also sprayed my "bowtie" brake pedal pad with undercoating so it would not be slippery but I just don't like it.....I'm gonna strip it back off, paint the back and glue me a piece of thin rubber to it....and, the idler pulley for the serpentine belt was BARELY rubbing the back of the electric fan housing so I fixed that little problem to.

A few more runs up and down the street and I may put the tags on it and go for a ride smile

First off, I'm back after being gone for a couple of years. Been working on my Masters degree, not my truck, but I didn't get rid of it.

Well, I've done a lot in the last couple of years. I combined the good parts from my parts truck with the good parts of my good truck and then got rid of the parts truck. It found a good home with a friend who picked up a 1963 C10 fleetside.

This last couple of months, I have made a lot of progress. I got the engine swap finished (235 to 327), put the new Holley mdl 4165 (650 cfm) installed, installed the VintageAire A/C system in (not charged yet), stripped and refinished the grill/headlight assembly (I went with a 1960 model, I got it with the parts truck), got the cooling system all installed and closed, and installed the new fuel pump..

Over the last couple of days, I got the engine running, even though I had a half a tank of 5 year old gas, put new tires on the front, and last night, I actually took it out for a short, but loud, trip to the local gas station to mix another half tank of high octane in with that old stuff.

I say loud because I have not installed an exhaust system yet. I still have just the factory ramhorn manifolds and nothing else. I'm looking at going full custom dual exhaust with flowmasters (or similar) with the turn outs just in front of the rear tires and under the steps.

That's what I've done to my Bolt recently. :-)

Last week, I bought a '55 Bel Air 235 engine to put in my '51 1/2 ton replacing my 216. Last night finished cleaning and priming block. Took head off and tomorrow taking to engine shop to get checked out and valve job. Found the original timing gears have already been replaced by a PO so make that one less item I have to do. Took some #s off the cam to see if the engine shop can id for me. Hopefully sell some ebay listed items this weekend to clear up my garage/work area.

Finally ordered both stainless fuel lines and tank mounting pads so I can move the new Spectra tank and dual action fuel pump outta the diningroom. ...the pump made a nice center piece, I thought.

This completes the entire fuel system. Tank to carb the only thing original to the truck is the filler neck.

Was your truck assembled in the St. Louis plant? Mine was built there sometime in February 51. I bought if from someone near Concord Village and hauled it back to Dallas.

I've been working on my bedrails most of the day. Being a Very amateur woodworker I must stop every time I move between sawing and drilling. With me it's, "measure 20 times and spend 20 minutes thinking what will happen, then cut." I am taking pics for those that might be interested in bedrails. More to come...

I finished mocking up my bedrails tonight. I got one picture snapped and then dropped my camera and it is now kaput. I will crank-up my wife's camera and see if I can take some pics of the mock-up and the rest of the adventure. I'll break it down tomorrow and begin the sanding.

Looks like I wasn't the only person had a bad day Jim,I look forward to your pics, assuming the boss will let you use her camera!

I pulled the truck out the garage yesterday with a view to going on it's first real shakedown run and to calibrate the electronic speedo.

Long story short the left rear brake caliper took a dump....it's marked it's territory all along my driveway.
On the plus side at least it happened in the driveway at 5mph rather than approaching a set of stop/traffic lights. eek

Ironically the rear calipers are two of the very few second hand parts on the whole truck, well apart from the body and chassis.
I had checked them before fitting and everything seemed to be A.O.K.....

Unsuprisingly the FLAPS here don't sell Firebird calipers or re-build kits. cry

Finally got my 56 running today, after it had been sitting since 1997 according to the previous owner. Got it unstuck last summer, and put in all new brake lines and cylinders over the winter. Making progress, slowly but surely. LOL

Here are some pics of my 56 Chevy 1/2 ton that I finally got started after sitting since the mid 90's. This is how I found her a year ago and is how she looks today for the most part.

I went to Seeburg Muffler in North Kansas City and had them change my noisy dual exhaust from the headers to one pipe and muffler out the back. Now I can hear the engine and transmission noises that were drowned out before. Nice job on the exhaust though.

..one step backwards. Tried to put the bottom door seal retainer on my 52panel but ran into some problems....or maybe its just me. Anyway, I've pulled some of the weather stripping back off the bottom and will have another go of it....after consulting the guru's here on the bolt.
Darn it, I will figure it out....I will figure it out....

OK, I drilled out and turned the vent window vertical seal around and riveted again. NOW I'm done with that part of the project!

On another note, I needed a 4'th wheel with clips to complete the set for my '59 truck and found 2! So now, I even have a correct wheel for the spare on my side mount. Best part of all, they were FREE! yahoo
I like free... just sayin'

I have been sanding and preparing the wood for my bedrails. After sanding down each piece to a smooth finish I pulled down my Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane to find a half gallon left over from treating my bed-wood over a year ago. As I applied the urethane I noticed small bits of dried product on the wood. Rather than stopping and dealing with the urethane I continued to treat one side of each piece of wood. After drying I could tell I would need to re-sand. I re-sanded and filtered the urethane through cheesecloth and reapplied. The result was better but the problem then seemed to be that the urethane was too thick. *SOLUTION*
I went back into the house and took a 4 hour break.
Then I visited Home Depot where I bought lots of sandpaper and a new qt. of urethane. Tomorrow is a new day...

Proud of your progress Indy! Keep it up and keep us posted.

Today I installed the felt on my vent window division bars and drilled out the fasteners holding the lower window channels to the window frames. Then, I sanded the frames down to bare metal and painted them gloss black.
Now as I look at the awesome new glass vent windows, then look at the weathered door window glasses, I've 'bout decided to buy some new door window glasses!
