Forgive me if this is a simplistic question, but I know little to nothing about radios.

I bought a radio on eBay for my 64 and it was listed as working after a bench-test. I also have a set of the aftermarket underdash dual speakers I bought sometime back.

Now that I have received the radio, and since my truck is torn apart...How do I bench-test it???

The back of the radio has a plug-in that has 3 terminals: far left is a black wire...middle is a green wire...and far right is a male tab connector.

What is what...where do the speakers hook up...antenna? etc. Do I use my truck battery for power to bench-test?

As you can see, I really don't have a clue and could use some guidance! smile

Thanks to any and all that can help me!

Green to speaker+, black to speaker-, radio chassis is grounded thru case, empty tab is for red power wire IGN. Antenna should plug in to rear. I believe you should have an 10 ohm speaker, IIRC. Brian

Hook up an antenna, clip a neg lead to the case, positive to the tab. Turn it on, wait a few seconds, they have to warm up a bit. Brian

When I work on a radio, I always power it with my trickle battery charger. That way everything is fully protected. I never use a truck battery to do that.

For the antenna, you can use a piece of hookup wire. Just bare about 1/2" and poke it into the center hole in the socket. If it touches the casing, it will short out the signal.

The radio is probably all or part solid state. Make sure that you have the speaker connected and start out at low volume. It may not be too tolerant of being run without a speaker.
