Do you live in an area that has heavy FOG in the winter? We all know that GOOD Fog Lights help you see better in the fog, snow and Just bad weather in general. But what about that guy coming up on you from behind, Can he
see you? You know in Fog you will see headlights of oncoming cars before you'll see the taillights to cars you are following, so this project is to make you seen by following traffic sooner in the heavy fog.

Looks like a taillight out of a trailer or large truck, the kind that push in round hole. The only thing I can say would be to check with your state to see if it would be legal.

Europeans have had these rear fog lights in use for years and they do make a difference. Put an aftermarket on my VW for the 7 years I was there but a lot of the automakers there install them in the taillight assembly. They only use it on one side (drivers). And they work.........
Another good idea who's time has come i.e. daytime driving lights.

one thing i notices-the light pictured is like a red spot light--we used those type lights for years on cop cars firetrucks etc. might i suggest a bulb like a R4414 or 4416. these bulbs throw out a more diverse beam --sorta like a tractor work light. spot beams are just that. anywhere not in the center of the beam isn't bright, but with the diffused beam, the light is spread more spread around---better for curves and hills--just a thought. oh yeah, on legality--in indiana at least, and by federal statutes i checked--these are o.k.---on the rear.

I know it looks like a spot light in the pic, but this is a "diffused beam" type light, I have some of each and this one is not as bright as the spot light. I woulc need to take it apart to see what number it is, as I don't recall at tyhis time.

I pulled the bulb out of the light, it's a GE 4411R, 12v 35watt Auto/tractor.

That rear facing red light is OK as long as you are not pulled over to the shoulder of the road & stopped. In heavy fog someone could mistake that light for a running light & drive right into you as you are parked.
