Good morning!
I'm sure hoping that someone might give me some insight as to how to get the rear spring off my truck. I have a 55 Chevy Series 2 and I've been able to get the back of the rear spring off, but the front with the rear spring eye pin and bushing are giving me a heaache! Lol. I've taken off the grease fitting and in the manual it looks like I need a special tool to screw into the pin and pull it out. Do I need to purchase a special tool for it or is there a simplier way?
Any input would be greatly appreciated! This is the last step before I can send the chassis out to be dipped!

Thanks!
Chris

I just read in the manual that it says I need a J-1436 puller to remove the pin. I've searched the web and can't seem to find one. Any suggestions?

I drove mine out with a large punch from the inside. If you haven't taken it out, there is a lock wedge that needs to be removed for it to come out. It should come out without too much hassle.

Hi Bill

A lock wedge??? I've taken out the nut and bolt that appear to hold the pin in by sitting in a groove in the pin. Is that what you're referring to? I'm curious, because it didn't mention a wedge of any sort in the manual.

Getting a punch on the inside must have been kind of tricky too with the space being pretty tight. I noticed that on the inside it appears that the pin sticks thru the part of the chassis that holds the spring on, right?

Thanks for the help!
Chris

That's the part. If it has a regular bolt in it, it may have been apart before. The original part was wedge shaped, with the threaded part at the thin end. It's referred to as a "lock bolt" in the manual. The new bushing kit should have a replacement wedge/lock bolt in it.
You're right about it being tight to get in there, but it can be done. It's much easier with the bed off the truck, which I take that you've already have done that.

Yes, Bill, I have the chassis sitting there all by itself. No front/rear end, cab, engine,....NOTHING! I'm just trying to get the springs off so I can send it to metal cleaning.

Thanks for the tip! I'll see if I can get a big punch to get them out.

Chris

It's much easier to remove the running board than the bed.
