When I take the valve cover off there is a tube that sits on the last post I call that the oil return tube. I believe it takes the oil fron the shaft and drops it down into the lifters[if it was not crimped] On mine the end is crimped closed, some oil flows thur but not much, should it be? The tube does have a pinhole break in it which is probably metal fatigue? I currently have oil pressure which runs from a low of 20 to a max of 50, Is this all right? The engine has not been rebuilt The end of this tube being crimped bothers me because I worry it is restricting the flow of the oil but also realize that it may need to be crimped to allow the rocker arms to get lubricated> Am I making nothing into something ? Thanks for response, Doug . If I need a new oil return tube anyone know were I can get one? | | | | Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 4 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 4 | Doug, You might ask this question to the old GMC trucks forum, oldgmctrucks.com There are a lot of helpful members there that have a wealth of information about these GMC engines. I think the overflo tube goes on the number 4 rocker arm support. The oil from that tube flows down almost on top of the distributor gear. I dont think it should be crimped. Your oil pressure is probably ok for a engine with some wear. | | |
