I took one set (just 2 shoes for one wheel) of rear brake shoes to NAPA for relining. These are for my 1950 3600. The cost of relining came out to be $49. I think that is high?

Thoughts?

Hmmm.... I just had my fronts done. They sandblasted my levers and everything looks brand new for $80+tax.

So, basically $100 for rear brakes. Did you get both sides done?

I had mine relined for my COE a few years back. You don't want to know what that cost... I think almost everything that goes through NAPA gets a serious price gouging. That being said, they did send off my clutch and pressure plate and returned them in perfect shape for under $100.

I think it's worth finding the place that actually does the work. I found a lot of companies that offered relining service here in Minneapolis/St. Paul but as far as I can tell... they all need to send them to the same place to have the actual work done. It was called Brake and Equipment Warehouse and you could tell as soon as you walked through the door that they knew what they were talking about.

I think they could have actually done the work while I waited but I elected to drop them off. 3 days later they called me and let me know they were ready for pickup. I didn't expect them to sandplast and paint (or powder coat) all my hardware with them. Pretty impressed!

Yikes Josh - I was $350 for all 4 sets, and the turning of the drums.

FWIW - I picked up a set of front brake shoes this morning for my '54 3100 at NAPA for $20.70. Four shoes; two wheels. "Tru-Stop" #TS-228.

Lonnie is on the right track here. I ordered 2 sets through NAPA (neither of which ended up being correct for my 1-ton) but both sets were far cheaper than the cost to reline.

You can't get shoes for a 1-ton, they have to be relined.

Check with places that repair heavy equipment, school district bus repair, highway dept, farm implements and the like. I bet they can refer you to where they get their brakes relined. Good luck!

Only needed one side. I have the other rear side shoes that were relined already.

OH, you can't (or I couldn't) find shoes for a 3/4 ton (I think they might be the same as a 1 ton).. SO, my plan is to do the rears and re-line my old shoes. IF I can find a place I would still have to ship them and have them shipped back with adds to the cost.

OH well. At least I'll have another set. I will have the drums turned, but as minimum as I can get away with.

Thanks for all the replies
