I am relativley new to the forum, joined a few weeks ago after purchasing my 66 C10. It's a pretty decent truck (I think), but I'm not yet sure what I want to do with it.

Right now, it's got a 327 with a 4 speed on the floor (well granny plus 3). I plan on driving it, so I would like to upgrade to a tranny with OD at some point and have to add power steering. As you can see from the pics, there is no floor in the bed, but that's okay. Most of these that I've seen need the wood replaced anyway.

At first glance, there is not a lot that I want to change, and I haven't had a lot of time yet to figure that out. Right now, I am working on some lighting issues (turn signals and brake lights).

Hopefully I loaded the pics correctly, and you'll actually be able to see them. I look forward to getting some tips from theis forum.

That C10 is in great shape! It looks as if a previous owner has done some work. Beside the power steering, at some point you might consider a brake upgrade too. Since you really don't have any serious body work to do, I think most of us would concentrate on safety issues and smooth running engines as a first step. Again, a very nice C10!

Thanks. That is really where my thoughts are too. With the turn signal and brake light issues, I've not taken it but a few blocks away from the house. I'll be cracking open the steering column this weekend to try and troubleshoot the turn signal switch.

The brake upgrade scares me a bit. Seems a lot more technical than anything that I've done before - but I'm open to learning.

That's a beautiful truck. Ditto the other comment on concentrating on the safety issues.

When you are ready, here is a link to a tech tip on the brake conversion. I haven't changed mine yet; I'm just starting the body work. But it looks like a good-detailed, step-by-step how-to on the job.

Welcome to the forum, and again, GREAT looking truck! thumbs_up

Thanks fo rthe link on the brakes. Still looks like a big task, but this breaks it down pretty good.

Good luck with you C-20. Looks like you're well into the project. Love the stepsides.

Brakes a big job? Maybe so, but have to start somewhere. I have been there (still am in many areas) as many of us have. Brakes were my first and they were surprisingly easy with some coaching. Fun to learn and accomplishments are rewarding. Take a deep breath and get your hands dirty. You will find lots of folks (here and there) to help along the way. Do you have the shop manual? If not, you can find the link to the shop manual on the sight. Looks like a nice truck. My truck came from colorado by way of wisconsin. Not so lucky in my case, since I have now replaced all sheetmetal front of the cab. Much work on the cab and doors as well. Mine looked good on the outside, but it was not pretty underneath. 4 years later and a dwindling checkbook and still having a blast learning about old chevy trucks.
Welcome to the sight.

You can do the conversion in less than a weekend and still have time for other chores........

Ah.. Johntsmith, I have looked at the work you are doing on your truck, Isabelle? Very nice truck.

I plan to do the conversion, just money is a factor right now.

By the way, I have seen a "bolt-on" conversion kit that is made to use your current ball joints and tie rod ends. anyone see/use this kit? Or have an opinion in the bolt-on verses the full conversion?
