I am wanting to install a big block 454 into my 64 4x4. The truck came with no motor. All it has is the original riveted mounts on the frame. Other than that I don't know what they are supposed to look like or where to find them. Any pictures or ideas would be very helpful. Thanks!

are those perches exactly across from one another or is the one on the passenger side a little further ahead. if the pass perch is forward then it had a 292.if they are parallel then it would have been a 230 or a 283. what trans are you going to use?

The 454 will drop into the same opening & frame-to-motor perches, as the 283, if that is what was in it previously. As padresag said, the 292 frame-to-motor perches are offset from each other. Also, the small six perches are different lengths, so you may have to find a longer mount to replace the shorter one, in order to drop a sbc or bbc in the engine bay.

The perches are exactly across from eachother so I guess it had the v-8 in it. I have an nv4500 5 speed that I want to put in it but I'm not sure if it will clear the old bellhousing crossmember? Thanks for the info guys!

one easy remedy for the big block( i believe that they do sit a little higher) is to install the later 4 x 4 eng crossmember 67-72, esp if you have to remove that b/housing c/member. it gives good support to the frame. helps eliminate twisting-flex from the p/s esp when you put those big wide tires on. it bolts in( you may have to drill a few hole. you can also add to this the after market perches( with the 1thru bolt later insulator) which will raise the motor about an inch and give you better clearance around the exhaust. you can also use the 73 and up eng crossmember in there but it is a little bigger and is also a little higher in the eng dept.
what are you going to use for a T/case.
had a friend just put the 4500 in his 65 4 x 4 that he is doing.he went to advance for his setup for the adaption. it all looks pretty impressive with the transfer case bolted up-350 eng though. one just has to have a little deeper pockets for that.he used an 8o's style eng c/member

Great info! I will be using an np205 T-case. The 4500 already has the adaptor for the 205 case. Did your friend have to remove the old bellhousing crossmember? Not sure if that will weaken the frame around the spring perches too much? Also did he have to get the new bellhousing form advanced adaptors or just the adaptor plate?

he got the b/housing from advanced. he installed the later 4 x 4 frt suspension in. he did eliminate that b/h c/member. he did install all of the later mounting inc trans from the later frame.
you say that you are not sure if removing that crossmember will weaken the frame around the perches. what do you plan to use instead as you will then have no c/memeber from that little one under the radiator to what ever you put under the trans rear mount???. good luck.

Padresag,
Could you get me your friends email or send some pics of the 65 4x4 with the nv4500?
Thanks!

the bell housing is not advanced. it came out of Tennessee . this is installed in a 6 GMC 2 wheel dr, that he has converted over to a 4 x 4. 80's style frt suspension and cross members
I used an eng crossmember from a 68 4 x 4 in my 64 4 x 4 esp if you are going to remove the b/housing c/member

I do have some more I think
