on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 49 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2008 Posts: 49 | I have just purchased a 1951 Chevy CAR. I have the backing plates, shoes, cylinder, etc. from the front of my 1955 2nd truck. Will these fit the car with the original 5 lug drums. If they will fit, will the brakes be better, the same, or worse as far as stopping power? Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | 1951 was the first year for Bendix brakes. They should be the same as your 55.

Yes it will accomplish that goal, and that goal only. 50 years ago that was a popular swap to get to 5 lug. Today most of the parts suppliers sell a kit to adapt Camaro disc brakes to the stock front axle. That swap will give you better brakes and 5 lug. Of course you will have to change your master cylinder as well. | | | | | Joined: May 2008 Posts: 49 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2008 Posts: 49 | I was just wondering if the 55.2 brakes would be any better than the stock 51 brakes. Looks like not since they are the same. Thanks for the replies.
