When I bought my truck, the PO had removed and disassembled the heater to replace the bad core. He said he couldn't find a new core but he threw the old core away! So.. I need a source for a new or rebuilt core and some instructions on how the pieces go together. Thanks.

you'll find 2 of the 3 heaters in the accessory manual - if it's not one of the 2 then it's the "standard" factory installed recirculating heater which is very easy to figure out [only case, core, fan]

your kinda stuck without the original core tho' cuz you need it to find the size, and the core is actually only the finned central part, seperate from the end tanks, which have the hose fittings mounted in the correct place to go thru the case and firewall [and prolly got turfed w/ the core] nobody reproduces the actual cores, you hafta take your old one in to get redone

need to find a used original of the correct model to get the pieces yer missing - if you can post a pic of parts you have I can tell you which one you've got - or just start searchin for a complete heater, like in the swapmeet section - possible some of the vendors have complete reconditioned heaters too [like Carter for one]

Here's another idea for you. I have a '58 (same heater). I had the original core with mine but, it was so corroded that it couldn't be fixed. So, what I did was spend an afternoon looking at the catalogs at my local O'Reilly's till I found one that was close. I think it was actually for some small import car but, it was the right dimensions (actually, if I remember right it was a bit taller) but, there's some room to play with in the heater box. Anyway, all I had to do was change the inlet pipe a little bit and it fit like a glove. (If you've ever sweated copper water lines it's the same thing). Here's the best part I think the price was something like $35.00!!! A lot cheaper than a reproduction or a recore and it even had a warranty!!

I have the standard recirculating syle heater in my '58. Not the deluxe fresh air one. Is that what you have? If so, I might be able to do some digging and find a receipt with the core # on it.
