The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop 1957 235 Linkage Question

Hopefully this is the last stumper on my engine, but again it seems I didn't take the best photos. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

In this photo there are two spots on the engine. One is a post, one is a hole.

Judging from my own build pictures, the left post is where the throttle linkage hooks up to. A spring goes from that linkage, down to a tab on the oil pan to keep it tight and the gas pedal hooks directly onto the linkage near the post. However, I seem to have NO pictures of the hole on the right, or what it's for. I've checked at least 20 image pages on google, along with most the galleries on here and I can't seem to find anything. My Shop Manual also yields nothing. Judging from poking it with a wire, it doesn't seem to go into the water or oil journals of the engine.

Can someone please tell me what it's for, or even post a picture of what hooks there, so I can smack myself in the head and say "DUH!"?

Some vehicles use the front, some use the rear, for the pivot stud, depends on the year.

Brokenhead: it has threads in it as if something goes there. I always like to double check.

Dave: Is that all it is then and I can plug it? That makes sense, because in my image search, I saw engines that had the linkage there instead of on the post. When I got my 235, it's linkage was on the post so that's where I'll keep it.

Since the hole was threaded, it had me concerned it was part of some adjustment linkage or something. I'll probably just plug it or smear some grease in there then.

Yes, only for throttle pivots.
The rear hole is a blind hole and does not need to be plugged. The front hole goes into the water jacket and would need to be plugged if not used.
