I have a 49 one ton, I don't think they came from the factory with shocks. On mine I took the brackets from a 3/4 ton and welded them to my truck, Then ordered 3/4 ton shocks from Jim Carter. It worked pretty good. P.S. My truck has single rear wheels.

Please tell me, Does a Rear shock on a 1 ton do anything? My 1 ton does not have rear shocks. It would take a Real nasty bump in the road plus a huge load to over come those 1 ton springs plus the over load springs. Just my opinion. Jerry

advance design 1 tons didn't come with shocks. I have some very heavy duty gas shocks that were reccomended by the manufacturer for my application. they actually seem too stiff. I've been a little disappointed with the results but I still don't have a bed on my truck & hopefully that'll improve things. right now it's like my axle is mounted solidly to the frame! it rode real nice once when I about 1200 lbs scrap metal on it.

HI have pic's of shocks on my one ton it was a RPO special order from chevy This truck has the original ones, I think because it has a tall box it was ordered with shocks to stablize the load?

I have an early 1949 1 ton and it has what I believe are lever or knee action shocks. I've never had much of a load in it yet so I don't know if they work.

I've found out from experience that the "Heavy Duty" shocks do very little for the ride characterics of a truck, unless you're loaded. The best shock I've ever used on the rear, were Rancho's. They didn't seem to do much when riding around town, but when crossing a railroad or a big whoopty-do in the road, wow, what a difference.

From what I understand, the biggest thing that shocks do is dampen the effect of the spring. They help with the parasitic bounce of the wheel when going down the road. It's especially important when braking. If you've ever experienced wheel hop when slamming on the brakes, you'll know why it's important.

I have a 1941 1 Ton PU. No shocks in the rear and doubt that they would help.

I just tolerate the stiff ride and doubt it would help if I did have them.

shocks on a stock spring ton? ha what for? they wouldn't do anything. if you want a softer ride and don't ever load the truck, take some springs out and put in a block to correct ride height. then shocks would be helpful. thats what i do to make pickups out of 2.5 ton and larger trucks. then i fab my own axle mounts, or use some that are already on the doner axle.(I don't do stock builds, and originals are geared to high)
