Would someone with an AD 1-ton PICKUP (i.e., single rear wheels with the 9-foot box) that still has its original spare tire carrier in place, be able to send me a few photos of what it looks like installed?

Thanks,
John

John;
I don't have alot of detail, but here is a picture of our old 1950 3800

If I recall, it was just a horseshoe shaped piece of iron with 4 bolts that went through the box side.

That's a cool picture! Unfortunately, though, I'm looking for the under-bed assembly set up. I think I have what I need in the Factory Assembly Manual, it's just that I have a couple of pieces under there that may be left over from when they had installed a utility box on my truck. Once I can tell what's supposed to be there and what isn't, I can remove the "what isn't." smile

That is a cool photo, though. Are those gentlemen related to you and what are they shoveling?

John

Parents of an old friend. They're shoveling wheat from the truck into a horse-drawn cart (I believe the horse's name is Hardy). Back in the day they were very proud of a new truck, most of the pictures of her family have a prominent "feature" vehicle.

I'm currently in the process of restoring this old 3800, trying to bring her back to her old glory. Unfortunately trucks were trucks back then and they took a real beating. Broken springs, cracked casings, remnants of a time when a truck earned it's keep.

Good luck on yours.

Was reading thru this and thought I would chime in here. I have a 3/4 ton and had the same question about the spare tire carier under the bed. Mine has a flattened C shaped channel that runs from the last crossmember (above the rearend) straight back toward the bumper, stopping at the end of the bed, and sloping down a little. I have seen this same peice on some of the trucks in the gallary section but none with the whole assembly. I am curious what the rest of it was. My assembly manual is kind of vague in that area. I think I remember reading somewhere that the bar stuck out to the back some and was in the way for those trucks that maybe had the bumper removed for whatever reason.I am guessing they wern't very good otherwise since it seems most of them were done away with even with the bumper on.

Sly -- Thanks! Those pictures were very helpful!

hapydirty -- I'm no expert on any of this so rather than speculate, I'll defer to those who are experts on this and can help you better. You have confirmed the truck is actually a 3/4-ton? Just checking ... smile

Regards,
John

Yes sir, everything I have including the serial numbers tells me it is a 3600. I'm working on getting some pictures of this thing and get it on here so some one can tell me what it is I am actually looking at. It may have nothing to do with a spare tire carrier. I may be fixen to learn something again.

First time with the picture stuff so crossing my fingers here. Three of the pics are from under my truck trying to show that bracket. the other complete carrier is a pic I found online. Mine doesn't seem to have any of that type bracket.
