Howdy! wave

I like messing with and driving old chevy trucks, thought this would be a good place to waste some time.

What's the name about you ask? Well, my father had a '65 C10 longbed that he drove up until recently when he got a nicer '66. The '65 was shot-out beyond reasonable reapair, until I saw a '66 that was mechanically complete on craigslist. Looked awful and the price reflected it. But I wasn't after sheet metal. So, I said what the hell, and we went to look at it. Reached in and tugged the steering wheel. Ohh, yeah! No slack. Turned out it even came with some new stuff he'd bought, like two great out-west fenders and doors. So, for $450, I had most of the stuff to fix the '65, and some stuff for the '71. But, it's full of mud, because, we later determined, it completely submerged in the 500 year flood we had, earning it the title of "submarine". How bad was the '65, you say? Pulled a front drum @ 11.300". Rear end is wore slap out, too. Shimmys if you get "too fast" (probably <70MPH). It's a many-hundred-thousand mile truck, that spent time up north. (Door skins rusted through on both doors all along the bottom) The engine, that I think is a somewhat later 250, is still running great besides also having a few hundred on it. (Compression is so low you can easily do a 1st gear bump start down a very gentle hill.) I plan on getting it good mechanically and having it be a "work truck". I'm not messing with the 250 for now, although I'd like to rebuild it eventually.

The '71 is a real nice, low mile, low rust shortbed. Has a good just-rebuilt 350, and a TH350 trans. (Already got a great super-low mileage 3.11 first 4sp Saginaw to replace it with, for the princely sum of $50!) My granddad gave it to me, got it from a guy that wanted to race it (!) because he was in jail and needed bail money (big surprise, there). He didn't destroy it yet, though, just cut a hole in the bed, put some horrible fake rivited aluminum wheels on it, and some horrible paint. (And a bunch of moronic stickers and hot-rod crap) It needs some stuff but is mostly there. I'm thinking that I'm going to put it back together right and paint it up a real pretty metallic blue grey/green. It will also be a driver, though.

I'll have a couple pictures up soon.

So that's my ramble, I'll shut up now.

Welcome Chaz, you're right about the 71, looks very good. Hope you can get the stuff you need and get it back on the road.
Good luck.

Welcome to the bolt from a S.C. neighbor. You've found the best dang chev truck site on the web. Let us know how we can help.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Thanks everyone, I figure I'll document it as I go through them, hope to maybe find some parts on here, too. I ordered the brake stuff for the '65 from Rock Auto a few days ago and hope to get the brakes and steering good and go for a drive in a week or two. It'll be fun to ride around in it again, hasn't been down the road under it's own power in seven years or so.
