The 'ol 235 has been running eratic(sp) at idle (running lopey(sp) ), and acting like it wants to die sometimes. After retiming the engine, new plugs, points, rotor, cap, and checked the float level in the carb, the engine was running like singer sewing machine.
Today coming home from work about half way of the 8 mile ride taking of from a 4-way light as soon as I put pressure on the gas peddle, the loudest sound I ever heard *PLOOTH!* out of the carb.

It even killed the engine, that was the first time the engine had been stalled by backfire through a carb.
It sounded just like a round of mortor being shot out of a tube, and as it is the sound of the exhaust is pretty loud in the cab. By the time I pulled into the driveway, and walked infront of the truck, I smelled antifreeze.
I lifted the hood, and boy was there alot of heat coming out from underneith the hood, there barely usually is any.
I know the 235's are notorious for cracking the heads, and overheating. This I don't want to happen to me, so here's my question:
What type of sensor should I use to install on the head for a needle type temp gauge? I'm gonna run an experiment with this setup, and see exactly how hot the engine is getting, and record the temps.
